Worked as an autoworker for 33 year in Detroit, active and held office in UAW. Still active in the union and in the community living in Detroit. Active in the Bernie Sanders campaign.

Student in France in 1968 and participated in the student movement there. Still maintain international ties through this experience and international union activity through the union magazine Labor Notes.

School Story

Appreciated my experience in the Civil Rights Movement in Evanston, particularly the discussions about race relations that were organized during homeroom for our senior year.

I got called to the office for distributing flyers about a Northwestern tutoring program based in Chicago. The ETHS bus in this program had some great discussions.

I enjoyed participating in the production of the Gondoliers and the ETHS Marching Band. When I got to USC, they still were not allowing women!

Being in plays was such a wonderful experience for kids. Opportunities today for school kids are much less than they were. My siser had was in an area wide play like yours where she had to wear make up to become a statue! She could never quite get it all off. I remember plays on the top floor of Dewey School in an enormous space that use to be the gym.

I was in a play in junior high school of Peer Gynt that I think was based on our class 7-7, 7-8. The star character Danny Furlong himself reminded me of this at the reunion. For my role I actually had to jump on the back of a male character. This was incredibly embarassing because I was so tall, I was afraid I would hurt him! Thanks for the memories.

I want to thank the Committee for their hard work. Especially those responsible for the website which encouraged us to study in advance and organize ourselves. Truth is that with a class of 1000 you are not going to even known the majority.
I went through my yearbook and could see this reality. So I made a list of those coming to the reunion that I knew. I made an effort to find them. How amazing to see faces morph in front of you from the faces you knew from 1953 to 1966! I loved offering apologies to some and seeking forgiveness from others. To recover memories that had been lost was just great. Plus, figuring out puzzles from the past was so much fun. My heart goes out to those who told me how they had been suffering from depression in those early years! Trauma is often such a part of growing up. How shocking to see how many from our class have died. Aren’t we supposed to be living longer?
I regret not hooking up with more French honors folks and those who became French majors like me ending up junior year abroad in France in 1968. Plus other linguists in Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese since in retirement I am attempting to learn these languages.

Grady went to Dewey School. He had a sidekick Darryl and they would keep things stirred up by challenging authority in a way the rest of us were too timid to. Lost track of him going to Nichols. Our class didn't like being split up and we talked about most white kids were put at Nichols and black kids in Skiles. Wonder what happened to Darryl. He was a funny guy.
